    Nynex Chooses Newtec FlexACM Technology

Newtec FlexACM on Eutelsat W48: internet trunking for the Middle East and Central Asia from the Ottobrunn teleport.

Read the full releaseCollapse the release

Leading VSAT system integrator Nynex has installed Newtec's FlexACM technology to provide new coverage for the Middle East and Central Asia region.

Nynex's new services are a replacement for costly and unreliable existing fibre connections to the area. By using Newtec's FlexACM technology with inclined orbit satellites, Nynex is able to deliver robust connectivity at a significantly lower cost with unparalleled availability.

Using a combination of Newtec's Elevation ACM Shaper and Encapsulators (EL860), Elevation IP Satellite Modulators (EL170) and Elevation IP Satellite Modems (EL470), Nynex is running three transponders on Eutelsat W48, 48 degrees east to deliver Internet trunking for high-speed Internet in Iraq and Afghanistan via Wimax and 3G networks. The Newtec equipment is installed at the IABG teleport in Ottobrunn, Germany, and in remote locations in the Middle East.

Nynex's service provides connectivity to local civilian and military users at competitive rates, and with previously unattainable service availability.

“By combining Nynex's Monitoring and Control System, the advantage of an inclined satellite and the high performance of Newtec's Elevation technology with the robustness of Newtec's FlexACM solution, we can now easily deliver 100Mbit rates, much better service availability and a more appropriate solution to our customers in the region. We are already working on an extension of this service for Africa as an alternative solution to the very expensive and unreliable fibre optics Internet backbone there.”

    Andreas Buxbaum, Managing Director, Nynex

Newtec's award-winning FlexACM combines a range of cutting-edge technologies for implementing Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), traffic shaping, payload compression and IP acceleration in a highly efficient way.

The integrated unique patent-pending Noise and Distortion Estimator (NoDE) provides accurate monitoring of the satellite link quality and enables optimum usage of satellite transponders. In addition to an average doubling of the capacity of an existing link, FlexACM guarantees the highest level of link availability even during bad weather conditions, making it ideal to use on Ku-band and Ka-band links. Using FlexACM on inclined satellites enables Nynex to use the satellite capacity to its maximum at all times as FlexACM automatically adapts the link parameters to the available satellite power level.

“With this installation, Nynex has made a significant improvement to the Internet service available in the region. The FlexACM technology is a key factor in facilitating the expansion of reliable connectivity at cost-effective rates, particularly in conditions that are subject to heavy rain attenuation or other regular link degradations.”

    Serge Van Herck, CEO, Newtec

Newtec's Elevation IP modems are designed for the efficient transmission of IP over satellite at rates from 512 Kbps to 160 Mbps in full compliance with DVB-S2 standard (including 16APSK and 32APSK), and support a wide range of encapsulation protocols, such as MPE, ULE, GSE and XPE. They can be used in point-to-point or point-to-multipoint architecture in one-way configurations with terrestrial return channels or two-way configurations with return channel over satellite.

FlexACM is available across Newtec's Elevation product family, which consists of DVB-S2 IP satellite modulators, demodulators, modems and satellite IP appliances.

Satellite service provider enhances offering across global customer base

Herndon, Va., September 10, 2011 – VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a company of VT Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), today announced that Nynex has licensed iDirect’s iDX 3.0 operating software to upgrade its entire global network with SCPC Return Channel and multi-channel demodulation capabilities. The upgrade enables Nynex to provide greater flexibility in bandwidth allocation by combining the advantages of TDMA and SCPC within a single network. Nynex has also expanded its coverage into South America by purchasing a 5IF hub to offer new services. iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology.

Nynex’s enhanced service offering will allow it to better address existing customer bandwidth requirements, while also helping differentiate its services from competitors to capture new customers. Nynex will use its upgraded network infrastructure to provide leased capacity to Virtual Network Operator (VNO) customers in the oil and gas, military, GSM mobile, and satellite news gathering markets who do not own any telecommunications infrastructure.

With iDX 3.0’s SCPC Return capability, Nynex can remotely upgrade an Evolution satellite router at a customer’s site to operate in TDMA or SCPC on the return channel. This enhanced flexibility enables Nynex to activate SCPC Return to support temporary heavy traffic conditions, such as sending seismic data from an oil and gas exploration site, or turn on SCPC permanently once traffic reaches a threshold where a dedicated connection is the most economical choice, such as a GSM network that has outgrown its current subscriber capacity.

“With iDirect’s iDX 3.0 operating software, we can gain the efficiencies of delivering our service over a large, shared TDMA outbound channel, while being able to offer our customers dedicated SCPC bandwidth on the inbound channel. Upgrading to iDX 3.0 helps us increase our market share across critical markets in the Middle East and Africa, while also expanding the Nynex brand into South America with a new hub installation.”

    Andreas Buxbaum, CEO, NYNEX

“Nynex can now serve customers more cost-effectively with distributed, dynamic networks and adapt its service to diverse applications and needs. What’s more, it’s a cost-saving opportunity since the provider can leverage its existing infrastructure while expanding its capabilities with SCPC to create new revenue streams and strengthen its competitive advantage.”
